Over the past 10 years, the various student athletes from the University of Alberta and MacEwan University, who make up the University Ringette Team, have annually hosted Ringette Scores on Cancer (RSOC). To-date, this event has raised $750,000 for research at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton. With the 10th annual RSOC happening at West Edmonton Mall January 18 – 20th, we hope to add another $100,000 onto the total raised.

This upcoming RSOC holds extra special meaning for the University Ringette Team and for everyone in the larger ringette community because of Jenna Marko, a brave 6 year old ringette player from St. Albert, who is currently battling a rare but aggressive type of cancer called adenoid cystic carcinoma. Diagnosed in December of 2018, Jenna is currently in the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton undergoing intensive cancer treatments, including surgery.

Jenna comes from a very sports minded family. Prior to the onset of her cancer Jenna had been playing ringette for 2 years. Her mother Denise is a ringette coach and her older sister Nici is a ringette player as well.

The University Ringette Team wants to enlist your assistance in raising as much money for cancer research as we can with this year’s RSOC. We’ve made it very simple to do that! Click on the “Donate Now” button above. This will take you to a secure page where you can enter your payment information and receive an instant tax receipt. Any donation amount, no matter how small or large, makes a difference in the fight against cancer and helps people like Jenna enjoy a long and healthy life.

Ringette Scores On Cancer is a non-profit organization registered with the Canada Revenue Agency as a Canadian charitable organization.

The objectives of Ringette Scores On Cancer are twofold. First, to raise money to be used for cancer research by the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Second, to promote an active healthy lifestyle among children through their involvement in sports.

To accomplish its first objective, the Ringette Scores On Cancer tournament is held annually in January. This event has raised approximately $750,000 over the past nine years for the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

To accomplish its second objective, a school visitation program is carried out in May and June each year throughout Northern Alberta. Members of Ringette Scores On Cancer visit elementary and junior high schools to discuss the importance of healthy life styles through participation in sport, as well as the importance of academic success. The school children are given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience about the sport of ringette by learning and playing ringette in their school's gymnasium. Details pertaining to the school visitation program can be found by clicking on the appropriate link on the left hand side.
